FedEx Skips the Surcharge for Most Residential Holiday Deliveries

August 15, 2017

In support of small business customers and consumers shipping for the holidays, “FedEx will not apply holiday season surcharges except for packages that are oversized, unauthorized or require additional handling," states Patrick Fitzgerald, SVP, Integrated Marketing and Communications, in their press release.

The surcharge will be in effect November 20 through December 24, when FedEx Express® and FedEx Ground® surcharges will be increased by $3 per package for additional handling, by $25 per package for oversized shipments, and by $300 per package for unauthorized shipments.

This news comes shortly after UPS unveiled their plans to add residential delivery surcharges for the holiday season, which we covered in more detail in our Holiday Shipping in July blog post. Oftentimes FedEx and UPS will take cues from each other, but not this time. Now, FedEx is in a position to fight for a larger share of the holiday shipping market during peak online shopping season.
